About This Site

Welcome to Climate Crossroads!

Do you have questions or feedback? Email us!

ClimateCrossroads.org fuses social-networking opportunities with fresh environmental journalism and authoritative global warming expertise -- giving it the ability to connect users with a wealth of multimedia information, expert opinions, and each other.  ClimateCrossroads.org, created by the Sierra Club, is the go-to site for people eager --after eight years of inaction on global warming -- to share ideas, information, opinions and opportunities to make real and urgent progress on climate change.

How do I get started?

Here are five things you can do once you create an account:

1. Once you are registered, the best way to get started is to build your profile. Your profile is located in your "dashboard." Click on Edit Profile on the left side, fill in the questions, and give yourself a screen name. It's also a good idea to post a profile photo of yourself in the top left box of your dashboard.

2. Join or create a group and interact with people who share your interests.

3. Check out our blog.

4. Engage others at our discussion forums.

5. We have loads of other stuff. We have a food section. We have daily green tips. And take a look at our "How To" section.

Still unsure how to get started? Take a look at our tutorials.

Why Climate Crossroads?

Climate-change is one of the biggest threats facing our planet right now. Greenhouse gas emissions rose 70 percent between 1970 and 2005. Global temperatures have risen between two and three degrees Fahrenheit over the past century, and sea level has risen an average of six inches. A global temperature increase of another 4.5 degrees Fahrenheit would expose up to 30 percent of all animal and plant species to possible extinction, according to the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. If we do nothing, hundreds of millions of people will be impacted by drought, fires, intense storms, and a drop in agricultural output. Climate Crossroads is a place to do something about it.

Do I need to be a Sierra Club member to join Climate Crossroads?

No. Although Climate Crossroads is a network organized by Sierra Club, Climate Crossroads is its own entity and anyone is welcome to join. If you aren't a Sierra Club member or volunteer, you will not become one by participating in Climate Crossroads.

If I become a registered member of Climate Crossroads, what will I be able to do?

As a member, you'll be able to connect with friends, join groups and actions, submit or recommend food recipes, comment on blogs and breaking news, post photos and videos, post an event, download free music, and more.

Where do I go to create my profile?

After you become a member, you can fill in your profile. From your Dashboard, you can post a picture of yourself and access your profile by using the menu on the left side. Click where it says "Edit Profile". From there you can use the gray tabs in the middle of the screen to list things like what you're reading and what music you're listening to. If you click on the "Contact" tab, you can give yourself a screen name. Once you're done creating your profile, you can find friends by going back to your dashboard and clicking "Find Friends" in the middle of the screen.

What will creating or joining a group let me do?

Groups enable people with the same interests to get together. Similar to your own Dashboard, groups have their own Dashboards that allow members to leave comments for each other, post events, post pictures, and maintain their own blogs. Groups can share bulletins and announcements with other group members. There are many groups that appeal to a range of interests, including bicycling, car-sharing, renewable energy, teachers, vegetarians -- the list is endless. If you can't find a group that matches your interests, you can start your own group!

I'm hosting an event and I'd like to post it. How do I do that?

There are many ways to post an event. Under the Community menu, you can access all posted events and add an event by clicking on the "Add an Event" link at the top-left of your screen. You can also post an event through your Dashboard by clicking where it says "My Events" toward the bottom, or "Manage Events" on the left menu. After you create an event, you can invite friends to your particular event.  Your event will appear on the homepage as it gets closer to the day of your event.

I forgot my password. What do I do?

On the log-in page, there is a link for those who have forgotten either their username or password.

I came across a glitch on the website. Where can I report it? What do I do if I'm being harassed?

If you are experiencing any glitches, or if you are being harassed, please contact Climate Crossroads staff.
