Eliza Gilkyson is a politically-minded, poetically-gifted singer-songwriter, who has become one of the most respected musicians in roots, folk and Americana circles. The Grammy-nominated artist has appeared on NPR, Austin City Limits, Air America Radio and has toured with Richard Thompson, Patty Griffin and Mary Chapin Carpenter. In 2003, she was inducted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame. Eliza grew up in Los Angeles, the daughter of legend Terry Gilkyson, who penned hits for Dean Martin and Johnny Cash. Now living in Austin, TX, she has become an active voice in the progressive community, organizing political forums and working with local environmental organizations. In 2008, she released her sixth album, Beautiful World.
She offered her song "Unsustainable" as a free music download here on Climate Crossroads.
Eliza is passionate about the environment, both as a writer and activist. She donated her song "Wildewood Spring" to be used by Save Our Springs (SOS) Alliance, which is fighting to preserve Barton Springs in Austin. She has also partnered with a local alternative energy company so that all her local shows are solar-powered. She has performed for countless benefit events and nonprofit environmental organizations.
