Dovekins has offered its song "Walk So High" as a free music download here on Climate Crossroads.
Dovekins, a band based in the landlocked state of Colorado, was formed on a sailing trip upon a boat called "The Dove", by several of the band's queasy sea-legged members. Though sailing was not their forte, much merry-making music was made, inspired heavily by the sea, and by the forces of nature and adventure which faced the sailor musicians. Now, five band members strong, Dovekins expresses itself with accordion, upright bass, banjo, guitar, mandolin, drums, clarinet, flute, kazoos, and five harmonizing voices.
Banjo player Laura Goldhamer says, "I feel we cannot separate ourselves or our actions as a species from 'nature' or what is 'natural'. We are inextricably linked within a global chemistry, and, though I would not shun technological and industrial advances as unnatural, I hope that it becomes more of a part of human consciousness and more of a part of our species natural development to realize our role in this global chemistry and take responsibility for that role. Our actions have been trending toward making this planet less inhabitable, both by humans and by many other species whose home this is. While actions are not always reparable, I believe it is possible for a sentient species to take responsibility and change courses. We all live here. We are not an element outside of this earth-organism, and we must act responsibly as a component within it."
